Special District of Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta is one of provinces in Republic of
Indonesia. It is famous as Special District of Yogyakarta because it is a
kingdom which joins and becomes part of Republic of Indonesia. The government
of this province consists of two elements. First, the governor is responsible
to the president of Republic of Indonesia. Second, the Sultan is the king of
that Islamic Mataram Kingdom to conserve the national heritage. Therefore, Yogyakarta
is now ruled by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X as the king of the kingdom in the
past and as the governor at present. Yogyakarta has four districts and one
municipality (kota madya). The districts are Sleman, Bantul, Gunungkidul, and
Kulon Progo.
